JobForce Chrome Extension — Last updated: June 2025
What we collect
The JobForce extension collects the following data when you browse the web:
- Page URLs and titles — to determine whether a page is job-related.
- Page text excerpts (up to ~3,000 characters) — sent to the JobForce backend to confirm whether you have submitted a job application.
- Job application details — company name, job title, and job URL, extracted from pages where an application submission is detected.
- API key — stored locally in Chrome extension storage to authenticate requests to your JobForce account.
How we use this data
- URLs and page titles are classified by our backend AI to determine if a page is a job site. Non-job pages are discarded immediately.
- Page text excerpts are used only to confirm job application submissions and are not stored beyond the classification request.
- Confirmed application details (company, role, URL) are saved to your JobForce dashboard so you can track your job search.
What we do not do
- We do not sell or share your data with third parties.
- We do not track browsing activity outside of job-related classification.
- We do not store full page content — only brief excerpts needed for AI classification.
- We do not access passwords, form inputs, or personal financial information.
Data storage
Your API key is stored locally in Chrome's extension storage and never transmitted except as an authentication header to the JobForce API (api.jobforce.dev). Application data is stored in your JobForce account database, which you control.
Your controls
- You can remove your API key from the extension popup at any time to stop all data transmission.
- You can delete your JobForce account and all associated data from the Settings page in the JobForce dashboard.
- You can uninstall the extension at any time via Chrome's extension manager.
Permissions used
- webNavigation — to detect page navigations and identify potential job application submissions.
- tabs — to read the title of the active tab for classification.
- storage — to save your API key and backend URL locally.
- notifications — to show a desktop notification when an application is logged.
- alarms — to keep the service worker alive in the background.
Content script access
The extension injects a content script on all pages (http://*/* and https://*/*) to detect "Apply" button clicks and extract page context for application confirmation. This script runs passively and does not modify page content.
